What Information Can Be Obtained?
Under the RTI Act, citizens can seek: information about government decisions and policies, details of public expenditure, records of government contracts, information about public services, personal information (subject to privacy), and information about court proceedings (subject to certain restrictions).

How to File RTI in Kolkata
Write the application on plain paper or through the RTI Online portal. Address it to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned department. Specify the information required clearly. Pay the application fee of Rs. 10. The PIO must respond within 30 days.
For life and liberty matters, the PIO must respond within 48 hours.
